A new version of the PD-100 T has been developed by Prox Dynamics. Unlike its predecessor, this micro unmanned aerial vehicle is equipped with surveillance as well as night flying capabilities. This unit is so small, measuring around 10 × 2.5 cm and weighs just over half an ounce exactly 16 grams inclusive of batteries, this is small enough to fit into one hand.
This unit by Prox Dynamics, presently in use by the British army was developed as part of a £20 million contract for the development of 160 units. Developed by Prox Dynamics, the PD-100 T has made significant positive impact to reconnaissance systems as it has the ability to offer 24-hour Cargo Pocket ISR to war fighters. This is in the words of Ole Aguirre, Vice President at Prox Dynamics.
PD-100s are not new to surveillance, as they have proven themselves to be game changers. They have been in use since 2011. It was used in the operation against Afghanistan and also by the United Kingdom as well as coalition partners. The ministry of technology in the UK refers to the PD-100 as a life saver.
In the words of Petter Muren, the founder of Prox Dynamics., he says: “We believe this is the single-most important upgrade on the PD-100 system to date. The PD-100 T combines EO and thermal camera into an 18 gram helicopter, allowing fused live video and still images to be viewed by the operator. Today’s modern warfighters demand a 24-hour solution, and here you have the first nano-UAV solution to achieve this”
The PD-100 T is equipped with long wave infrared as well as video sensors that streams videos and high resolution still images in the dark through a data link over a 1.6km range. Over time, over 2800 black hornet has been delivered till this day.
