Ring Clock is exactly what the name of the product says it is. It is a ring and a clock. You may have seen metallic rings, if not in real life then in movies or in some magazines. And you know how a digital clock looks like. Marry the two and you get the Ring Clock.
The Ring Clock is being pegged as a gadget, a cool piece of tech that will be stylish, eco friendly and playful. The developers have already marketed the piece as having cutting edge technology such as ultrathin battery, wireless charging and energy saving LEDs. What one fails to understand is why they are being pegged as cutting edge technology when all are more or less conventional options right now.
Here’s what the Ring Clock is all about.
Made of stainless steel, the Ring Clock is not allergic and it will not turn black or get oxidized over time. The time is displayed with the help of LED Lights. These lights would make checking time at night or in dark rooms quite convenient. The wireless charging is a fairly appreciable feature but one still has to plug the ring in onto the charging console or keep it within a distance of 4 cm from Qi. The ring has rotating seams which when turned would display the time. The ring is water resistant and one hopes that every day use would not cause dents due to the quality of stainless steel used. However, the makers have already clarified that the ring clock is not suitable for bathing, showering, swimming or fishing. Snorkeling or underwater diving is out of the question. If that kind of activity cannot be indulged in, then the device is certainly not as resistant to water as one would want it to be.
The makers hope to come up with the technology to convert the kinetic energy of the rotation to power the device. However, that seems to be a farfetched idea which will either be realized many years later or the device would not become so popular for such tech to be developed.
The Ring Clock seems to be only for those who would make impulse purchases or would really want to own as many cool new age toys as one can. For others, the device doesn’t seem to be of much use. People aren’t exactly very fond of rings and especially when all it does is tell time.
